The building became an Ontario Historic Site in 1965 and a National Historic Site in 1997. \u00a0In 1974, white stucco was applied to the exterior limestone bricks. \u00a0In 2001, Uxbridge Township and L.M.M.S.O. removed the stucco, returning the exterior to the original brick.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the physical integrity of the Manse is strong, much as it was during her stay from 1911 to 1926.<\/p>\n<p>Home and garden, dear to L. M. Montgomery, were her environment, crucial to her literary imagination. \u00a0This is where she stood. \u00a0This is what she saw.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lucymaudmontgomery.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/plaque2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-342 alignright\" title=\"plaque\" src=\"https:\/\/lucymaudmontgomery.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/plaque2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The historical plaque erected on the front lawn of the Manse property reads as follows: \u00a0&#8220;[Ontario Coat of Arms] \u00a0LUCY MAUD MONTGOMERY. \u00a0In this house\u00a0author of &#8220;Anne of Green Gables&#8221; lived for fifteen years, and here wrote eleven of her twenty-two novels, including &#8220;Anne of the Island&#8221; (1915) and\u00a0&#8220;Anne&#8217;s House of Dreams&#8221; (1916). \u00a0Born in 1874 at Clifton, Prince Edward Island, she was educated at Charlottetown and Halifax. \u00a0From 1898 to 1911, she\u00a0lived at Cavendish, P.E.I., and there began her career as a novelist. \u00a0In 1911 she married the Rev. Ewan Macdonald, a Presbyterian minister, and came\u00a0with\u00a0him\u00a0to Leaskdale. \u00a0They moved in 1926 to Norval, and nine years later to Toronto, where she died in 1942. \u00a0Mrs. Macdonald was awarded the O.B.E. by King George V in\u00a01935. Archaeological and Historic Sites Board of Ontario.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-343 aligncenter\" title=\"lucyvase\" src=\"https:\/\/lucymaudmontgomery.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/lucyvase2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"156\" height=\"260\" \/><\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"2\" cellpadding=\"10\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>L. M.
