October 2013 – L.M.M. Day was a huge success. \u00a0Kate Macdonald Butler, Maud’s granddaughter, opened the morning with her own personal Reflections of Growing up in the Macdonald Family<\/em>. \u00a0Dr. Edith Smith followed Kate with a talk on the Hundredth Anniversary of Maud’s book, The Golden Road, <\/em>written in Leaskdale, in 1913. Nina, of the LMMSO, completed the morning with a fitting (pardon the pun) tribute to Family Fashions in the 1910’s and 1920’s<\/em>. \u00a0Nina never ceases to amaze us with her vintage clothing collections!<\/p>\n

Journalists Stevie Cameron and Arlene Perly Rae gave talks linking the theme of Montgomery\u2019s lasting influence on writers and readers. Ms Cameron told her own childhood story, relating it to that of Montgomery\u2019s and of Anne\u2019s. Perly Rae described the influence the Emily books have had on Canadian writers such as Val Ross, Jane Urquhart and Alice Munro.<\/p>\n

The Cat\u2019s Meow Gala in the evening was so much fun. The downstairs of the church was decorated on a cat theme. The food, the music, the lighthearted talk by Wynn Walters on representational sculpture, were enjoyed by a large audience. The cats, created from aluminum cutouts, were amazing in their variety and originality, thanks to the more than fifty artists who took on the project.\u00a0 There was some hot bidding going on during the evening. No cat fights, though. The evening netted over $3000 for our statue of Maud in the Garden.<\/p>\n

As well as placing bids, guests were asked to submit votes for their favourite felines. \u00a0The results were as follows:<\/p>\n
