John Oxtoby poses for a picture in front of the “Oxtoby domicile”, the first home Maud stayed in when she arrived in Leaskdale. The house is located directly across the road from the Historic Leaskdale Church. The Oxtoby home had served as Ewan and Maud’s boarding house while the Manse was being prepared for the Macdonald couple’s arrival.
“The Misses Oxtoby had been very kind to me, but I did not like living there…I longed to get into my own home. But before that devoutly wished consummation could come to pass there was some work to be done!”
John was treated to a tour of the newly-restored Manse, as Maud had known it, before he was coaxed into posing for this picture.
